During the past few years, textiles from at least three different communities in Oaxaca have been plagiarised. These actions continue to fuel the debate on "cultural appropriation". What do we understand by this concept? Where do we draw the line between "appropriation" and "inspiration"? This talk will present a brief overview of certain textiles from Oaxaca and contrast their historical evolution to current practices.
