Description:
TALK: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ROOM IN NEW YORK
Presented by Peter Howard
Thursday, March 15, 5 PM
The Intriguing Story of How Fragonard’s The Progress of Love came into the Frick Collection. Last year, Peter gave a talk at the OLL on the highlights the Frick Collection. Now, he concentrates on one of the most spectacular exhibits in the collection, the four large canvasses by Jean-Honoré Fragonard originally commissioned by Madame Du Barry in the early 1770’s for the new “pleasure pavilion” she shared with Louis XV that are shown in one room at the Frick, how they came to be and how they came to there.

Since Peter Howard retired, he has devoted himself to museum work. He was a docent at The Frick Collection for seven years and was a docent at the Guggenheim fMuseum for six years before that. He served as Chairman of the Board of The Benton Museum of Art at the University of Connecticut and as an Elector at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford and has offered outreach talks on the collection of The Yale University Art Gallery.
