Our presenter is a native of Teotitlan del Valle, a former teacher in his town, as well as a Professor in language and communication in indigenous areas at the College for Intercultural Education in Oaxaca (CSEIIO). He is presently the Librarian at the Instituto Welte. The lecture centers on the interplay between Spanish and Zapoteco in Oaxaca in times of cultural change and its variations from one village to another. He explains that the primary education system has not played a positive role in these dynamics.
In the month of July Lic. Bautista Mendoza will offer a basic course in Zapoteco at Instituto Welte. More details of the course will be presented at this event.
