TOUR: COCHINEAL FARM and ALEBRIJE WORKSHOP

For centuries before the invention of artificial dyes, cochineal was one of the most prized and costly commodities on earth. Mexico, and more specifically Oaxaca state, was the world?s principal source of this precious substance, which produced the intense red color sought by the cardinals of the Church, the British military and weavers and painters on every continent. We?ll learn more about the production of cochineal on today?s outing, and then visit the world-famous alebrije workshop of Jacobo and Maria Angeles in San Martin Tilcajete. Lunch at Azucena Zapoteca restaurant (lunch not included in price of tour price - between $100 and $200 pesos and a small entrance fee of $20 pesos for the Cocineal Farm entrance)
