As NASA talks about a return to the moon within a few years and the US and Europeans have been sending satellites — and robots — throughout the solar system, there is a renewed interest, and ability, to search for extraterrestrial life. It won't be little green men but there is increasing evidence that at least two of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn may have molecular compounds that indicate life. And new discoveries on Mars show that the red planet may have hosted life in the past.

This talk will include the planned Artemis manned missions to the moon scheduled for 2024. That mission includes using resources like the ice water we know exists frozen in the moon's craters and the establishment of a manned base for exploration of other planets. All very exciting and science fiction-y plans that are really happening.

Tira Shubart is London based journalist who has covered stories in over fifty countries worldwide. She also trains journalists for the BBC and other international broadcasters around the world. Her hobby is astrophysics and space and she works as an 'Ambassador' at the Science Museum where she gives talks on space and other topics.

Tira has also worked with the European Space Agency and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (i.e. invited and voted into the Society for professional work). She has interviewed astronauts from the International Space Station for the European Space Agency. She has given talks at many venues over the years including the Royal Geographical Society, journalist colleges in Europe and Africa and on cruise ships./
