"Statistics show that for every job that is created in the distillery there are 5 indirect jobs created. We now have 15 people working in the distillery which creates 75 indirect jobs. I have observed that every worker goes home with their paycheck and they feed an average of 3 people in their family. So 90 people get a paycheck and 270 people eat 3 meals a day, every day that we work. It is very gratifying to know that Sierra Norte is benefiting the community with the new jobs that are created."

Doug French, a second generation US citizen living in Oaxaca, will be talking about his commitment to help improve the social economic conditions in Oaxaca. Along with his mother, Roberta French, they began this challenge with textiles, subsequently Doug moved on to mezcal and now with whiskey. This talk will focus on the history and changes that Doug has witnessed and been part of through his participation with Scorpion Mezcal and Sierra Norte Whiskey. He will talk about how each operation functions as a feasible business, gives jobs to local people and survives as a viable business with the highest quality products by world standards. Production details will include production details, product development, regulatory issues will be covered and a sampling of the products that Doug's companies make.

Doug French has two Bachelor degrees, one in Business Administration and the other in Latin American Studies. He has lived in Mexico 37 out of his 65 years. He has mainly been occupied in the production and import/export of products to 16 countries around the world. He lives in Oaxaca and operates the Scorpion Mezcal Distillery and Sierra Norte Whiskey.
