This is part of a series of three conferences.
Register separately for each one. It is not necessary to attend all three.
This series of three conferences will explore the economic and political dimensions of social and cultural life in the indigenous peasant communities of Oaxaca. At all times, attention will be paid to the interrelations with the broader sociocultural system that these communities have been part of since the Spanish conquest.
THIS FIRST CONFERENCE will provide geocultural background information, followed by an examination of the economy of the peasant hosts.
THE SECOND CONFERENCE (Monday, February 10) will examine traditional political systems.
THE THIRD CONFERENCE (Monday, February 17) will unite everything with a focus on the "modernizing" forces that are transforming the "traditional" systems, as well as attempts to resist those forces.
* The income from these conferences will be shared equally with the Welte Institute for Oaxaca Studies./

Esta serie de tres conferencias explorará las dimensiones económicas y políticas de la vida social y cultural en las comunidades campesinas indígenas de Oaxaca.
