Description:
TALK: APOLLO at 50 and the FUTURE of MANNED PLANET EXPLORATION
Presented by Tira Shubart

MONDAY, MARCH 11, 5 PM, FREE

Last year Tira gave an exciting presentation at OLL, entitled, Who Won the Space Race. This year she returns on the 50th anniversary of the first moon landings and will discuss why the Apollo program ended, what the developments are in returning to the Moon and the NASA timetable for a manned Mars Mission. It’s quite an exciting time now with the first commercial space flight carrying astronauts scheduled for launch this spring from Cape Canaveral. Not to mention the Chinese lunar landing on the moon recently and their plans to send Chinese astronauts there. Join us for this up-to-the-minute presentation complete with exciting images and video.

Tira Shubart is London based journalist who has covered stories in over fifty countries worldwide. She also trains journalists for the BBC and other international broadcasters around the world. Her hobby is astrophysics and space and she works as a volunteer at the Science Museum where she gives talks on space and other topics. Tira has also worked with the European Space Agency and interviewed many astronauts and cosmonauts. She has given talks at many venues over the years including the Royal Geographical Society (where she is a Fellow), journalist colleges in Europe and Africa and cruise ships.
