Porfirio Gutiérrez and his family are masters of traditional Zapotec weaving and come from a long line of weavers in Teotitlán del Valle. He is among a small group of textile artisans working to preserve the use of plant and insect dyes, techniques that stretch back more than 1,000 years in the indigenous Zapotec tradition. Sr. Gutiérrez’ work has been featured at the Smithsonian and several articles about his endeavors have appeared in The New York Times.

There will be an Out & About In Oaxaca tour on Thursday, February 13 to visit Teotitlan and see the beautiful new Cultural Center and visit weaving and candle
making/

Porfirio Gutiérrez y su familia son maestros del tejido tradicional zapoteco y provienen de una larga línea de tejedores en Teotitlán del Valle. Se encuentra entre un pequeño grupo de artesanos textiles que trabajan para preservar el uso de tintes de plantas e insectos, técnicas que se remontan a más de 1,000 años en la tradición indígena zapoteca. El trabajo del Sr. Gutiérrez ha sido presentado en el Smithsonian y varios artículos sobre sus esfuerzos han aparecido en The New York Times.

Habrá una gira Out & About In Oaxaca el jueves 13 de febrero para visitar Teotitlán y ver el hermoso y nuevo Centro Cultural y visitar talleres de tejido y fabricación de velas.
