In exchange for bringing souls to the Catholic Church, Pope Alexander VI granted the conquerors of Mesoamerica gold, land, and the labor of those who lived on the land. The presentation focuses on efforts made by the Spanish conquerors and colonists to make Antequera (Oaxaca) a Catholic City. We will investigate the Conquest, Conversion, Churches, and the Baroque period. All these elements are represented in the mural by Arturo Garcia Bustos, located in Oaxaca's Palacio de Gobierno. Participants will gain knowledge that helps them to recognize that Antequera's past is visible in Oaxaca's present.
