TTALK: THE EVER-EVOLVING NATURE OF OAXACA TEXTILES

2018 marked the 10th anniversary of the Textile Museum of Oaxaca (MTO). As part of the program, the Museum prepared an exhibition that featured the works of weavers and embroiderers from different regions of Oaxaca. Candidates were invited, according to their willingness to look at their work from a different perspective, as well as the close relationships that have been established and maintained throughout this decade. Each project was carried out in teams made out of weavers/embroiderers from different communities in order to foster unforeseen collaborations. The exhibition's aim was to create a strong sense of self-confidence for the participants. After a series of workshops they attended at the Museum they were able to propose, design, and execute their own ideas. The availability of good-quality yarns and access to the MTO’s collections also contributed to their success in this project.
