Zen Meditation & Teachings: a practical introducion
Oaxaca Zen Centro in the Arquitos
Taught by D Allen. D began meditation practice in the 1970s and has studied and worked with several fine teachers and communities through the years. He taught philosophy and women's studies in Wisconsin and has taught mindfulness in hospitals and colleges in California.
He founded Oaxaca Zen 3 years ago after leading meditation groups in Oaxaca for 15 years, along with his good friend Virginia Filip, director and yoga teacher at Casa del Angel, who now leads meditation salons at our San Felipe location.
Teachings in this class present Zen through stories, koans, and some fundamental Buddhist and related teachings that address in an accessible way questions such as: What is meditation and what's the point? Who am I? How can I negotiate my way through the difficulties and impossibilities of my human life? What is this vastness I have sometimes glimpsed? How can I further open my heart to others and to myself? Is there really a light inside the dark?
We'll also look briefly at a bit of Zen history: what were those crazy gals and dudes doing with this unique kind of meditation and life practice? How is it useful for us in these confusing and scary times we're in?
Each class will address a different topic. Regular attendance is recommended though nothing is required.
Open to all regardless of experience. Free with donations to keep our doors open.
5:30-6:30pm Tuesdays. Limited series.
