The goal of seismologists is to accurately predict earth quakes (E.Qs.). But what if they eventually succeed? They may open a Pandora box of problems such as: where to put all the evacuees, how to feed them and who wants to be left behind to prevent looting in the affected region. What is the latest info regarding earthquake prediction? Where are the safest places to live?

We shall look at why earthquakes occur, where they happen, and why some “relatively” small ones, in terms of magnitude, such as the recent earthquake in Turkey, create so much loss of life, havoc, and damage. We shall also look at ways to mitigate structural damage and some positive aspects of E.Qs. What is the latest scientific information today regarding earthquakes?

Pueden abrir una caja de problemas de Pandora como: dónde colocar a todos los evacuados, cómo alimentarlos y quién quiere quedarse atrás para evitar el saqueo en la región afectada. ¿Cuál es la información más reciente sobre la predicción de terremotos? ¿Dónde están los lugares más seguros para vivir?

Veremos por qué ocurren los terremotos, dónde ocurren y por qué algunos "relativamente" pequeños, en términos de magnitud, como el reciente terremoto en Turquía, crean tanta pérdida de vidas, estragos y daños. También veremos formas de mitigar el daño estructural y algunos aspectos positivos de E.Qs. ¿Cuál es la información científica más reciente sobre los temblores.
