OPS Earth, Fire, Food Session (Oaxacan Pottery) Description:
Two 1-day sessions available:
Saturday February 15, 2020 and Saturday February 29, 2020

Cost: $1500 MXN
Oaxaca is famous for its pottery traditions, but much of them rare being neglected, even forgotten. Over the course of a full day we will visit a family of three generations of potters actively engaged in the collective rememberance of their craft. We will explore the process of turning clay into ceramics, each step being undertaken and taught together. Moreover, we will be getting our hands dirty learning the living alchemy of earth and fire, listening to master storytellers, and discovering the old relationships between the fire that cooks our pottery that cooks our food.
Includes:
a day-long, hands-on workshop on the Oaxacan pottery-making process, from the raw materials to the finished product
a metate-made chocolate demonstration and tasting
a delicious, organic, home-cooked meal,
a parting gift for our guests from our hosts, selected specially for this session

Details:
When: Two Saturdays a Month (see calendar), 9am-4pm, Reservations Required
Where: Santa Maria Atzompa.
How: Driving. We will leave and return to Oaxaca City by car or van.
Important: This is a very rare and sensitive invitation. Therefore, we invite guests to proceed with respect for the traditions and hospitality of our hosts. As a result, this includes no photography or audio-visual recording of any kind. Guests are welcome to bring a pen and paper to take notes on.
