In April/May, 2018, Ron Waterbury and Carole Turkenik spent three-and-a-half weeks exploring Iran by car from Tehran to Shiraz, some 1000km. These keen observers (both hold PhDs in anthropology from UCLA) will offer their perspective on this dynamic country with its complex, multi-millennial history from Medes to Mullahs. Supplemented by their photos of the trip, they will focus on contemporary Iran and the paradox of this educated and largely secular people governed by a conservative, authoritarian Islamic regime.
