2016, sex worker Paola Buenrostro, a transsexual woman, was savagely murdered by a man in the Buenavista area. Although it happened in the middle of the night, the murder was recorded on video and in photographs, went viral, and sparked conversation and the defense of a marginalized and stigmatized community: that of transgender sex workers. At the forefront of this exercise of social activism was Kenya Cuevas, Paola's friend and a highly influential trans woman in her community.
