NOCHE de RABANOS EXPLAINED
Presented by Nicholas Garcia
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 5 PM, FREE
Join OLL to celebrate the Winter Solstice and kick off the holiday season. You will learn about the origins of Noche de Rabanos, a very popular, annual and competitive event held in the Zocalo every December 23. Participants grow and carve oversized radishes to create amazing, intricate scenes. Noche de Rabanos is a not to be missed Oaxacan tradition who's roots (pun intended) started back in the colonial period when radishes were first introduced to Mexico by the Spanish. It became an annual competition in 1897 and is going strong today. Come learn more and enjoy the refreshments that will be served (maybe even some radishes ;-).
