This series of three lectures takes a "big picture" approach to religious identity over the “long duration” of the last 2,000 years of religious identity in pre-Hispanic Mesoamerica and modern Mexico.

This first lecture will focus on major themes that have characterized indigenous religions, both pre-Conquest and enduring to this day.

Daniel Grippo first traveled to Mexico in 1980 and has studied and lived in a variety of Mexican locations over the decades. He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American history as well as an M.A. in Religious Studies. He has taught at U.S. universities and has offered engaging lectures on Mexican and Latin American history and culture at the International Friendship Club in Puerto Vallarta and the Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic for many years.

Esta primera conferencia se centrará en los principales temas que han caracterizado a las religiones indígenas, tanto anteriores a la conquista como perdurables hasta nuestros días.

Daniel Grippo viajó por primera vez a México en 1980 y ha estudiado y vivido en una variedad de lugares mexicanos a lo largo de las décadas. Tiene una maestría y un doctorado en historia latinoamericana, así como una maestría en estudios religiosos. Ha enseñado en universidades de EE. UU. Y ha ofrecido conferencias interesantes sobre la historia y la cultura mexicana y latinoamericana en el International Friendship Club en Puerto Vallarta y la Lake Chapala Society en Ajijic durante muchos años.
