We are back in Tlayudona with Alex and our favorite alebrije-painting family from the village of Tilcajete for this workshop.

You´ll get the basics–color, design, and some anecdotal information about the process that transforms copal into a woodcarving. This experience will launch directly into the practical side of this craft as you paint your piece. You´ll also get to sip delicious local coffee or mezcal while you paint!

This Paint & Sip: Alebrijes workshop is hands on, although it´s prefaced by a brief presentation about this artform.

One of our master painters from the Velasco Sosa family in Tilcajete will guide you as you choose your piece and immerse yourself in the creative process of transforming the woodcarving into an alebrije.

Course includes:

Oaxacan Coffee or Mezcal
Paint, brushes, smock, and any other materials necessary to paint your alebrije
Your choice of a 3-5 inch alebrije
Instruction by a master alebrije-maker from Tilcajete
A print-out of patterns/colors to guide you while you paint
