Description:
TALK: WHERE ARE WE, AND WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT?
HOW GPS and LIDAR IMAGING WORK
Presented by John Jamison
Tuesday, December 18, 5 PM

A non-technical introduction to how the GPS (Global Positioning System) works. It has enabled a crucial breakthrough technology for archaeology in enabling Lidar images to look through forests at the structures hidden below. This has been useful in telling archaeologists about the ancient civilizations of the Yucatán and other heavily forested places.

John Jamison is a respected and popular lecturer with 40 years experience in Seattle and Walla Walla, Washington. He has also taught special workshops on using visual techniques for teaching modern physics in Exeter, New Hampshire and Melbourne, Australia.
